Business Entrepreneur: 10 Signs You Should Become One

When asked about the entrepreneurship journey, any business entrepreneur says that it’s fueled by the excitement of starting a business, especially if it’s their passion to make a new idea come to life.

Despite the misconceptions certain people have about being a business entrepreneur, millennials paved the way for so many aspiring innovators to take a leap of faith and become their own full-time boss.  For anyone feeling inspired, here are 10 signs why entrepreneurship might be just right.

Feeling Uncomfortable Having a Boss

The perks of being an entrepreneur are having no boss. No approval is required to set the working hours and there’s flexibility and freedom to decide on which direction to take an idea or business. In fact,  the majority of millennials worldwide is interested in starting a business state because “I want to be my own boss” which makes it the perfect sign.

Enjoying a Challenge

A second sign that one should become a business entrepreneur is the thrill of being challenged every day in the workplace. Every day can be a new challenge for a business: between keeping up with policies, markets, business models, and consumer preferences that are always changing, entrepreneurship is all about learning and adapting on the go and on a daily basis. If you find this thrilling instead of stressful, then this is also a good sign.

A Millennial Business Entrepreneur Has Low Competition

Millennials see excessive risk in owning a business, and the majority is scared of that risk. The top three reasons behind this fear are related to the stress of betting on a fresh and unprecedented idea, the high likelihood of failing, and how it’s too risky, to begin with. However, if you’re in the minority that considers this threat as an opportunity, then entrepreneurship is definitely your path.

Pursuing a Passion

This sign goes hand in hand with that “fire in the belly” that make entrepreneurs successful. After all, it all comes back to the liberty of choosing what parts of the business work and what doesn’t because the decision is not just motivated by research and a big amount of data, but also passion. Passion builds resilience and stamina, two pillars that serve any entrepreneur well.

Impacting the World as a Business Entrepreneur

It’s never too early to want to change the world. Even as a student, a future business entrepreneur develops skills to connect the causes and consequences of the world’s most serious issues, exactly as portrayed in the climate workshop in which 1200 EMLV business school students participated to be able to understand the triggering factors of climate change, the expected results, and collectively coming up with solutions.

By practicing early on, some of them will realize that there are entrepreneurial endeavors that will make a difference in communities, societies, and the world overall. It can end up with creating a product or service that will serve as a solution and help people in the best way possible, all because of the personal need and urge to make the world a better place.

Enjoying Multiple Business Roles

Excelling in multitasking and being good in multiple departments of a work field are always attention-grabbing, and being an entrepreneur is definitely a way to use those skills to benefit one’s very own business.

Using Skills With Autonomy

This mum and son enjoy doing business together because it’s all about complementarity and trust. Thomas Balandret, an EMLV graduate and serial entrepreneur, started his business, Toccata Formation, with his mother, because they felt they could improve the e-learning programs for healthcare.

But using skills with autonomy comes after years of experience and working for different companies and departments.  For many employees, it becomes suffocating to give time, effort, and personal skills for the benefit of others or for an end goal that they can’t relate to, which is why they decide to invest on themselves and on their ideas and utilize their skills for a personal project instead of a corporate job that no longer satisfies them.

Inspiring Others is Key to Becoming a Business Entrepreneur

Becoming a business entrepreneur is the direct equivalent of being ready and wanting to inspire and encourage others to act as entrepreneurs in their jobs.

Every year, Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinci hosts an Alumni fair: this year, more than 100 alumni, representing around 90 companies gathered during an evening to help and advise future graduates in their search for internships or first jobs.

What’s important to note is that while some alumni came back representing multinational companies, others were proud managers of companies they created, even prior to their graduation.

Having a Competitive Nature

The desire to create a strategy and win translates perfectly into any business and can easily be spotted from afar, even if it means going back in time. If from a young age, an individual grows up with the need to excel and having a competitive spirit, this might just mean that from the beginning they had what it takes to become a business entrepreneur.

A competitive nature will force anyone to not only become great, but the best.

Wanting to Improve

And this happens by constantly gaining experience and supporting the practical side with a dose of  theoretical and academic approach especially to be able to keep up and compete in a digital and multicultural world.

The Master’s in Management at EMLV business school is a two-year programme allowing students to dive into various sectors of study and discover sectors that will strengthen their skills and know-how to run their own business like corporate finance, digital marketing strategy, international business, marketing innovation and distribution, and audit and control.
