Four Internship Programs in International Business that help Graduates to boost their Employability worldwide

MSc International Business students are required to complete a 6-month internship before graduation. Often, these Internship programmes set students on the path of becoming global managers and leaders in international firms and organizations.

From finance to games, to supply chain, and business management, the 2020 graduates from the EMLV MSc International Business, finished their 6-month internships despite the difficulties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. 

At the EMLV Business School, students are unsurprisingly laser-focused on career-boosting opportunities such as visits to international firms and french tech companies and internships within an extensive network of partners.

Each year, students participate in several on-campus events, such as Pitch & Meet, an international career fair that helps future graduates take the next step in their career. 

Here is a selection of four internships positions that allowed EMLV students to develop their career skills during the summer of 2020, with both remote and in-person work. 

Head of Relationship Management & Business Development, Luxembourg Stock Exchange

As part of the internship program, the student-trainee carried out several tasks, such as: 

  • Support the Business Development & Relationship Management team for: 
  • Research on Competition (Rules, Processes, Fees) 
  • CRM Database (Quality Control, Identification of Key Contacts for Key Accounts) 
  • Planning and preparation ok Key Account Management missions (Obtain and 
  • Synchronize appointments, prepare documentation, be the urgency contact) 
  • Develop Business to India (Indian Market Expansion) 
  • Conducting market research, creation & execution of GTM strategies, gather market intelligence & competitor analysis for strategic planning considering different international markets. 
  • Liaising for Business development, global partnerships & Growth-related initiatives. 

“The MSc in International Business course has helped me to develop management skills which will allow me to perform specific tasks in this industry and it will also help me in future to achieve at higher positions in the industry.

This course provided me to grow professionally and personally. It will be a stepping stone success in my carrier. It has given me an international platform to work in a global cultural environment.”, the student explained. 

UX designer Intern for the Market Unit department, at Avanade

This graduate student was recruited by Avanade, the leading digital innovator on the Microsoft ecosystem, on the 2020 edition of “Pitch and Meet”. The MU department is in charge of developing solutions for customers to lead them into innovative workplaces.

As a UX designer, the student’s first task was to work on a Serious Game: example buttons, e-mail and social media interfaces.

The first stage of this mission is the research: What are the main aesthetics rules UX world must follow? For example, the personalization of the design involves picturing yourself as the person behind the screen. How to know your audience to create simplified interfaces and smooth user experiences? 

“I thank the EMLV for teaching me and providing me with the tools and training needed to succeed on this first professional experience here in France.”, the student said in his internship report.

“Avanade allowed me to learn about new technologies and how a company works in the real world. I feel I have developed skills that would be beneficial for my professional career later on. I think that with my actions, I could put into the frame a lot of things that I have learned at school, especially on the market plan project, which we saw a lot at EMLV.” 

Customs Brokerage Intern at Expeditors

Expeditors is a globally recognized logistics company that offers freight forwarding as well as custom brokerage services. It is a Fortune 500 company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington, USA.

As a Customs Brokerage Intern in the Customs department of northern France, based in Roissy en France, the core responsibilities were to support the billing/administration department.

Her daily work involved dealing with commercial invoices into import as well as export and making sure that the shipment was being collected on time. At the same time, the student had to make sure every critical data was being registered into an inbuilt software. The purpose of her job was to support the department strategy on a local level and offer the best in class customer service.

Here are a few activities that the student-trainee carried out as a part of the internship: 

  • Ensure pick-ups and deliveries are completed timely 
  • Ensure smooth and timely files creation in Expeditors systems
  • Ensure smooth communication with import carriers and service providers
  • Prepare various documents for international transportation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the operating system

“My masters at Leonard de Vinci provided theoretical knowledge about the supply chain as well as import & export actors.”, the student explained in her internship report. 

Business developer, at NextMotion

NextMotion is a med-tech company created in 2016 by Dr Emmanuel ELARD, a French aesthetic doctor. This company produces and sells worldwide an evolutive all-in-one ecosystem dedicated to aesthetic practitioners.

As a “Business Developer”, the student-trainee managed all the processes related to the sale of the solution. But she also had the opportunity to participate in many other activities, such as marketing and community management: prospection, sales, customer relationship management, customer success and support, analysis and reporting, marketing, installation and training, translation, community management, PrevU Program.

“I have strengthened my multi-skilled profile, as it was necessary to be reactive and be prepared to solve issues quickly, I could show a large autonomy on achieving the missions given. On the other hand, I have learned a lot about strategic and digital marketing which allows me to give wise recommendations during business meetings.”, she says in her description of the internship.

“Moreover, during the studies of my MSc in International Business in EMLV, I could learn about Digital Marketing, Managerial Accounting, Business Plan and Cross-cultural Marketing, which enriched my professional development and helped me to succeed my missions in my internship.

I also believe that the multi-skilled profile I acquired thanks to EMLV courses was helpful and even necessary to be efficient in this company.

For being a Business Developer, even more in a start-up company, it is necessary to be dynamic, sociable and versatile, qualities that I have reinforced thanks to this experience.”
