How International Finance Really Works: Going Beyond Borders

The year 2020 has arrived, and with it, the beginning of a new decade and a new MSc in International Finance at EMLV Business School. International finance represents all financial transactions that take place, crossing national borders, which makes it even the more fascinating to explore because it goes beyond physical borders in order to build strong ties between individuals and businesses.

A glimpse into different international finances in action in the real world would be through:

  • Personal banking
  • Company asset shifts
  • Sales, purchases, and trades
  • Foreign marketing investing

The Big Impact

Since it’s all about financial relationships, it’s important to highlight the various benefits of diving into this sector. Not only does it hold thriving opportunities for firms, but it also supports the global economy on a worldwide scale. With a growth in stature due to globalization, international business has been breaking the barriers on so many levels:

  • By supporting the access to capital markets across the world which allows a country to borrow during tough times and lend during good times.
  • By promoting domestic investment and growth through capital import.
  • By preventing excessive domestic regulation through global financial institutions.
  • By encouraging healthy competition, ultimately leading to a more effective banking system.

International finance also examines the dynamics of the international monetary systems and exchange rates, foreign investments and how these topics relate to international trade. Sometimes referred to as multinational finance, it is additionally concerned with matters of international financial management because investors must assess and manage international risks such as political risk and foreign exchange risk to be able to make any investment decision.
