Josiane Marshall got her first internship in the United States when she was in her 3rd year at EMLV. It quickly became clear to the entrepreneur that this could be good for her! How? By connecting French trainees with American companies.
With a Master degree in Management and HR in 2014, Josiane Marshall was prepared with her American network before embarking on the adventure in the United States in 2017. Testimony.
The trigger: the Facebook page “Les Frenchies aux Etats-Unis”
In 2012, I spent one year in the United States, first in New Orleans for six months of study, then in Miami for an internship as part of the international course at EMLV.
In February 2014, back in France, I created the Facebook group “Les Frenchies aux Etats-Unis” which now has more than 14,300 members. Thanks to this initiative on social media I flew back to the United States. An American employer spotted me on the social network. Hee advertised on my site and took me on an internship. I worked with American firms and made me a book of address. I then accumulated several other professional experiences.
After all this time spent in the United States, all these testimonials collected on my Facebook page, I understood that there was an important business issue. In the USA, internships are not necessarily paid, even at a high qualification level. On the contrary, some employers do not hesitate to put their hands in the pocket and to compensate their trainees up to $ 2,500!
Today I contact companies all over the United States (Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, etc.). I negotiate the pay for my candidates.
Expertise in Management and Human Resources
The American Dream for a young Frenchman or woman? Not that simple…
To obtain a Visa J1 Trainee in the United States, it is imperative to be a student or a young graduate. Without a diploma, there is only one solution: to have 5 years of professional experience in a specific field. There are also many forms to complete. I help the candidates in their approach, as well as in their installation on site.
Then there is the entire HR component. In the United States, 95% of the interviews are done by Skype and do not last more than 20 minutes. You have to be very efficient in the allotted time. My role is to give the best advice to candidates so they can make the difference.
At EMLV, I learned all the techniques to capture the attention of a recruiter. These are valid everywhere in the world! How to present yourself? How to be clear and concise in your answers? How not to be scattered in the information that you give? I also know how reacts a person in human resources. I know what questions will be asked, how the interview will be conducted.
In contact with the international alumni of EMLV
There is a big advantage in opening a business in the United States: everything is done online. In 30 minutes, it’s over! I kept in touch with several of my comrades. They all have a very good professional career, especially abroad (in Canada, England, Andorra and Spain).
I spent many years at the Pole Léonard de Vinci where student life is effervescent! From my first visit to the school premises during the Open Days in 2009, I absolutely wanted to integrate the EMLV. I do not regret my decision. The teaching team gives me a very good memory and their advice is always so precious. I apply the methods and strategies as they were taught to me to be effective in the international market.
