Here at EMLV, diversity is what makes the learning experience of students special. As the best leaders create standards of excellence and set an example for others to follow, we strongly believe that our Faculty members and their students should share their multiculturality, learn and gain from their different backgrounds and life experiences. Today, in Meet our Faculty, we are talking with Erik Vazquez, head of the MSc in Digital Business & Analytics.
Erik Ernesto Vázquez is Director of the MSc in Digital Business & Analytics and a permanent Research Professor at Leonard de Vinci Business School (EMLV).
The force that drives Erik is his love for learning. Although it can seem long and complicated, the path from learning to teaching is often logical and this is what has driven the interest of Professor Vazquez toward higher education.
“I like learning, and this comes together with teaching. Sometimes, we don’t learn very well before we start teaching it.” (Erik Vazquez, Director of the MSc in Digital Business & Analytics)
Erik initially pursued a career in the private sector, in Mexico and the United States, holding positions as consultant, financial accountant, marketing representative, and rose to a position abroad as sales and marketing manager for Caterpillar Inc, a company from the Fortune 100s list.
From machinery sales to higher education, the transition was fast but controlled. For his first management position in a top university, Erik Vazquez went back to UDEM, where he did his first university degree. Here, at Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) – ranked among the top universities in Mexico and Latin America – Erik Vazquez was known as the youngest MBA Director.
In this role, he launched the AMBA accreditation process that drove the institution to obtain this accreditation in 2019.
Erik has been an active research member of the SNI National Research Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) as well as a reviewer for the European Academy of Management in track of international competitiveness since 2017. He has a doctoral degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in United Kingdom and Grenoble École de Management where he specialized in digital business. Erik also holds an MBA of the University of North Carolina.
He relocated to Europe in 2012, after having improved UDEM’s ranking from 13th to 7th place in CNN Expansion Magazine, and managed 4 EdUniversal Palmares ranks. Seven years later, after having contributed with its credentials in the AACSB accreditation process, Professor Vazquez joined EMLV – the Leonard de Vinci Business School Paris – La Defense – where he is the head of the MSc in Digital Business & Analytics.
“The MSc in Digital Business & Analytics is a programme designed for those who want to merge between their engineering background and business. This programme will help you develop readily usable skills in data manipulation, data analysis, data cleaning, data management, regardless of your path”. (Erik Vazquez, Director of the MSc in Digital Business & Analytics)
While at EMLV, he authored two research papers in international journals such as Electronic Markets / Springer :
- Effect on an e-retailer’s product category and social media platform selection on the perceived quality of retail products
- Effects of enduring involvement and perceived content vividness on digital engagement
“EMLV has a nice and flexible environment for work; I had the chance to publish two papers in a reasonable amount of time.” (Erik Vazquez, Director of the MSc in Digital Business & Analytics)
As an expat in Paris, Erik enjoys cycling, taking singing classes and having long conversations with his new friends.
