How EMLV Students perfect their personal pitch

Maria Dolors Sanchez, MBA Student at EMLV, shared her experience on designing the most valuable pitch.

“Overall it was an entertaining experience. I was a bit stressed about it weeks before it began, but it’s good to be put outside your comfort zone if you want to progress in all aspects of your life. I pitched for Atos and Bandai-Namco. I am interested mainly in the video games industry and would like to explore cybersecurity and consulting-related opportunities.”

Maria’s tips for successful interviewing

  • Research the company’s background, job opportunities available, and listen to the latest Investor Relations call. Prepare questions for the recruiter beforehand.
  • Include a question at the beginning and at the end, to engage with the audience.
  • Be passionate when you tell your pitch. If you can’t feel it, your audience won’t feel it either. Show your energy!
  • Remember you don’t have to explain everything, only what’s relevant and don’t forget to mention your professional achievements!
  • Write a story of your professional life, tell it as you feel it; it’s your professional life, you should be thrilled to talk about it!
  • Smile! Smile! Have I said Smile?
  • Use your voice, eye contact and hands to accompany your message. Look at the camera!
  • If you get nervous, slow down your pace… our brain thinks faster than our mouth.
  • Use silences smartly.
  • Try to link the beginning of your story to another key element within your story, if it can be suspenseful, it is best, as it will keep your audience engaged!
  • End with a call to action statement and thank your audience for their attention!
  • Always ask questions when the recruiter asks you if you have any questions for them.
  • Write all that you want to say on paper or even on a Word document.
  • Rehearse recording yourself with your webcam and in front of the mirror. You don’t have to memorize it by heart, remember the main messages and improvise depending on your recruiter’s interaction.

Last, but not least… Connect with the company and differentiate yourself by any means. Your jewellery choice can be also important. “I used some Pac-Man jewellery I had at home to connect as well with Bandai-Namco because it’s the 40th PacMan anniversary celebration.”
