Questions to Ask Before Joining a Business School Programme

Adding a responsibility to a career by embarking on a business school programme is an important decision. While there are countless advantages to pursuing it, like global networking, added knowledge and skill sets, there are a couple of questions that need to be asked for a better decision making in the matter.

Choosing the right business school programme requires a thorough evaluation to see if it meets both professional and personal needs, and a careful consideration of which business school is the right pick as well.

Are the Professional Goals Aligned With the Business School Programme?

For instance, if earning a Master of Business Administration degree will help attain career goals, then this decision is worth going after. Pursuing such programmes provides advantages when transitioning to a new career or industry, and encourages a promotion in a specific job position. It also supports graduates with a higher level of business expertise in solving complex industry issues. Students may be able to attain the quantitative and technical skills elsewhere; however, the leadership attributes, interpersonal skills and peer knowledge can be equally gained from an MBA programme.

How is it Perceived in the Professional Sector?

Usually businss school programmes such as MBAs or MScs are seen as a valuable credential across a variety of industries, whether in the private sector or the government or nonprofit arenas for career advancement. Even in companies that don’t require upper-level candidates to have a graduate business degree, the know-how and soft skills attained through an MBA or MSc programme can be the competitive advantage when it comes to securing a promotion.

Does it Have a Practical Approach?

The main complaint about business schools used to be the lack of soft/practical skills students get while attending university. Therefore, in order to be competitive and career-ready, business schools need to offer more than a basic business curriculum.

Business schools like EMLV noticed the high demand for them and developed a combination of courses that combine the academic content with projects that train students in developing their soft skills through group presentations, reports, and pitches. This combo helps students sharpen their self-awareness, judgment, and decision-making skills, while expanding their abilities to solve problems by dealing with multiple types of personalities, sometimes cultures, and work backgrounds the individuals within the same group.

With its blended learning approach, students will acquire technical as well as managerial skills. This dual competence facilitates access to positions in the digital and entrepreneurial sectors.

Does the Business School Programme Connect with the Market?

By choosing where to study, students should pay attention to how the programmes relate to the real business world. In fact, future employers will be curious to know how much the practical knowledge in the business school gave the sudent the right and up to date information about the state of the market and also how the international perspective was broadened in the process.

Is the program accredited?

And which accreditation does it hold? This is particularly important because the right type of accreditation will ensure that the degree is properly recognized in the home country as well as the country of current/future professional practice.

It’s all about asking the right questions to be able to make the right decisions!
