42 City U Hong Kong students participated in an academic and cultural trip to France to explore the intricacies of international trade. The activities focused on the market entry of a Hong Kong company into the French market and vice versa.
Exploring French cultural and historical sites also allowed the students to immerse themselves in the country’s rich heritage. This initiative blended cultural immersion and academic exchange and aimed to foster international understanding and enrichment among students from diverse backgrounds.
A tailor-made programme by EMLV
Due to the rich programme, City U Hong Kong students gained valuable knowledge about international market entry and business development in an intercultural context.
During this study trip, the students analyzed the market entry strategies for a jewelry company in France and a wine company in Hong Kong. They also had the opportunity to identify the legal aspects of business creation, restrictions, legislation and customs in each country.
To understand the French market, the students studied the support offered by the CCI International (Chambers of Commerce and Industry) of France and the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC). They met with local actors such as professional associations, lawyers, consultants, potential distributors, and business partners.
The seminars at EMLV and the cultural end
Furthermore, they attended academic seminars on luxury goods, international marketing, wine, and the business environment in France.
On the cultural hand, the students visited iconic cultural and historical sites in France, including the Louvre, the Orsay Museum and the Château de Clos Lucé. In parallel, the students studied the case of Caves Ambacia, a wine trading company in Amboise.
This study trip was a unique opportunity for City U Hong Kong students to link theory and practice, develop their interpersonal and intercultural skills, and forge valuable links with business professionals in France and Hong Kong.
